February 2003 Minutes

MINUTES OF CASRA MEETING
February 3, 2003 - MURCHISON

  1. Meeting called to order by Michelle Maloney at 6:30 PM
  2. Minutes of the previous meeting: These are now available with the emailed "Good Call" and on the website. Approved unanimously on a motion by Mark Elbom, seconded by Don Freidel
  3. Reports
    1. President (Michelle Maloney)
      1. HS training meeting after tonight's CASRA meeting.
      2. Welcome back to returning member Julie Briley
    2. Treasurer (Dana Brown).
      1. Checking balance is now $1961.15
    3. Referee assault issues (Mark Elbom)
      1. There was another incidence of referee after an AMSL game at Ziker, yesterday (2/2). The referee's bag was stolen, and there was an attempt to overturn a port-o-let while he was in it.

There was some discussion of what CASRA can do through the assigner, the league, the soccer coalition, and by encouraging the referee to file charges with TSSAS and criminal charges with APD.

Things to keep in mind in the future:
        • John Jones notes that refs should call 911 immediately after assault.
        • Mark Elbom advises taking minimal valuables in your gear bag.
        • Marc Kutner suggests following up with TSSAS and criminal charges. Perhaps CASRA should have mentors who can take assaulted refs through the follow up.
  4. Old Business

  6. Situations

  7. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM , on a motion by Terri French (2nd Pete Reilly), for a HS meeting.

Marc Kutner
