MINUTES OF CASRA MEETING
May 5, 2003 - MURCHISON

  1. Meeting called to order by Mike Day at 6:30 PM
  2. Minutes of the previous meeting: These are now available with the emailed "Good Call" and on the website. Approved with no amendments (motion by Ellen Carlstead, 2nd Don Friedel)
  3. Reports:
    1. President (Michelle Maloney)
      1. none
    2. Vice President (Mike Day)
      1. introduction of guests, and possible new members
      2. we should take note of Texas Legislature bill HB716, which upgrades the possible penalties for referee assault.
    3. Secretary ():
      1. An electronic version of our membership roster, has been emailed to all current members.
    4. Treasurer (Dana Brown)
      1. Checking acct balance is $2064.78.
      2. He is trying to work with Dave Olmos to get an Intro. Assessors clinic taught in Austin. Those interested let Dana know.
    5. Web site administrator (Chris Rake)
      1. There is a new section, photo's. Submit your own or Chris will take some if you request.
    6. News from Greater Austin Soccer Coalition (Pete Morris):
      1. NEMP touch lines have now been moved to make fields a little narrower, but to make track for ARs safer.
      2. Marc Kutner noted that two goals had come lose in the wind at SEMP the day before. The attachments that replaced the sandbags need to be made stronger, and sandbags need to be available when needed. Pete said he would see to this.
    7. Awards Committee (Don Freidel);
      1. Looking for suggestions on awards, like Ref of Year, Best Male, Female, and Youth Refs; Most Embarrassing Moment.
    8. Special Olympics (Llisa White)
      1. After many years of without it, soccer will now be a Special Olympic sport. They have had trouble getting refs, but Llisa is now coordinating this and State Cup will be in our area 5/23 and 24 at SWT. Let her know if you are available. She described the enjoyment of doing these games.
    9. Youth. (Carl Crowe) Starting this fall there will be a Youth Premier League. Contact STYSA for more info.
  4. Old Business
    1. Ref assault committee (Marc Kutner). Mark Trostle chairs this committee, and while, we have exchanged some ideas, we have yet to meet. The goal is to come up with a list of things to do when you are assaulted, and to make sure that there are experienced refs available to help assaulted refs through the process.
    2. Cilla Hammer thanked CASRA for supporting Cilla and Lupe in the MS bike ride.
  5. New Business
    1. CASRA Bylaws Committee: Dana Brown made a motion (2nd by Sue Cicchinelli) that the President appoint a committee to rewrite of Bylaws, with a goal to having a draft for discussion by the October meeting. After some discussion, it passed by acclimation. Volunteers are needed to serve on the committee. So far, Mike Day, Dana Brown and Marc Kutner have volunteered.
  6. Situations
    1. Mike Day related some situations related to unsafe equipment, including eyeglasses.
    2. Carl Crow noted that some refs are missing recognizing or penalizing DOGSO either by handling or by a foul.
    3. Andrew Ugboma related an incident where he had to deal with a player kissing an opponent as a say of taunting.
  7. Meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM , on a motion by Chris Rake (2nd by Ellen Carlstead).
