Austin Labor Day Cup Recruits
Top Referees
(ALDC News) Recognizing that top
teams expect a high standard of
officiating, the Austin
Labor Day Cup has launched several
initiatives to ensure that top-quality
referees are assigned to work all
matches.
First, we are excited to announce
that National Emeritus Referee Gil
Weber will be joining us for the
tournament. Gil will lead a clinic
for tournament officials and interested
coaches on Friday, August 30th that
will cover a variety of topics related
to the Laws of the Game, the recent
World Cup, and rules specific to
the Austin Labor Day Cup. The clinic
will serve as an official referee
recertification session, and should
be a very informative event for
all attendees.
Second, we have already begun recruiting
top referees from across Texas to
participate in the tournament. As
part of this effort, we have just
launched a
section of the tournament web site
dedicated specifically to our referees.
Any USSF-certified referee who is
interested in working the tournament
should submit
an application using the online
form that is linked from the main
Referee Info page.
Finally, we have just announced
our "Assessments and Assignments"
program, which will be in effect
throughout the competition. Using
a number of certified referee assessors,
we will conduct informal assessments
following many games throughout
the weekend. Using these assessments
as a guide, we will recognize the
top performing referees during the
preliminary rounds of the tournament
by asking these individuals to officiate
the elimination-round games later
in the competition.
We are committed to providing the
best-possible experience for all
participants at the Austin Labor
Day Cup. These initiatives represent
just some of the many important
measures that will benefit your
team in Austin this Labor Day!
